areas from servers to channel operators. If you have some time to kill,
get on IRC.

and Computer Security.

is dedicated to ridding the world of Internet(not Hormel) Spam. If you
receive those annoying, unsolicited messages in your email box and want
to help combat it, give them a visit.
-
Join the Fight against Spam! from the
Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email is another site looking
to wipe out the spammers. The junk email that is sent out by spammers costs
both you and me every single day that is allowed to continue. If we all
work together, we can stamp out junk email.
-
Mail
Filtering FAQ is for individuals who want to use filtering on the email
system. Filtering can be used effectively to get rid of junk email.
Software
This is a list of the software that I personally use when on the net. To
the best of my knowledge, it is all freeware. Most of this software and
many others can be found at Winfiles.com,
quite possibly the best shareware page(in my opinion).
-
Netscape Communicator is my browser
of choice. It has many features for the cutting edge web surfer.
-
Netscape Messenger is the tool I
use for email, and Usenet news, reading and posting. It is an easy to use
tool that has many useful features including HTML capable mail and news
posting( you can make your email look like your web page). The HTML capable
messages are becoming more of a computer security risk to the end user,
so be wary of HTML messages. I don't use them because they waste precious
bandwidth.
-
I use the Telnet client that comes with Windows 2000. It is a very basic
Telnet client with no advanced features. It is located in the main Windows
directory.
-
WSPing32 is my ping client. It does
ping, trace route, and DNS lookup. It is a very useful tool for trouble
shooting troublesome Internet connections.
-
WS_FTP Limited Edition is an FTP
client for copying files from a remote server to a PC and vice versa.
-
Xircon is a powerful Internet Relay
Chat client for connecting to the IRC network. It supports many features
including the ability to add scripts like Kano to enhance features.
-
Yahoo! Messenger is an instant
messaging client. It sits on the task bar and pops up when another user
is trying to contact me. It is very handy to get to someone directly.
